Theme for the Month: Kindness and positivity
‘Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible’
This month marks Safer Internet Day and we have been discussing how we can make the internet a better and safer place. We have discussed the importance of permission, how to have respect and ensure we are kind when we are online. The same can also be true in our everyday real lives. We want to throw kindness around like confetti and that means being positive about others as well as ourselves. Any act of kindness no matter how big or small can make a difference–especially when done intentionally. Here are our top ten acts of kindness;
- Hold the door open for someone
- Do a chore for someone without them knowing
- Feed the birds
- Pick up litter
- Let someone go ahead of you in a line
- Compliment a friend
- Share your smile with everyone you see
- Invite someone to join in your games
- Donate food, toys, clothes to those in need
- Reduce, reuse and recycle to help be kind to our planet
Safer Internet Day
We celebrated the global Safer Internet Day on 11th February with each class taking part in some very important activities. We have learnt about the importance of making the internet a better place by being a good friend online, by being kind and supportive and also by knowing what to do if something makes us uncomfortable. We know there is a button we can click to report something negative or harmful. We discussed the importance of permission and about not giving away personal information. We know we need to think very carefully before we press send! We would also encourage you as parents/carers to be very mindful of what children have access to whilst online. There is no denying that the internet can be a wonderful and positive resource however it is so important to keep ourselves safe whilst online. As a school, we continually revisit these messages, so we encourage parents and carers to do the same. We would also encourage a screen free zone in children’s bedrooms and ensure children have stopped screen time for an hour before bed. Blue screen effect can seriously disrupt sleep and can have a negative impact on children’s performance at school.
It has been a busy half term for Shared Education. The teachers from the three school met to plan and prepare for the Term 2 pupil meets. We have hosted the P3/4 classes from our partner schools this term. P1/2 were super excited to go on their first trip and had lots of Gruffalo fun! P5/6/7 learned how to make potato bread. Yummy! Teachers have also had the opportunity to continue their professional development through a variety of courses and are excited to put all they are learning into practice in the classrooms.
We have lots to celebrate this month. A massive well done to all boys and girls who received transfer results this month. You should be so proud of all your hard work. We wish all our Primary 7 pupils well as they begin the journey into their next phase of education.
Well done to our Irish dancers on your recent successes.
We celebrate all our achievements and learn from our similarities and differences. This is one of the reasons our school and our Carnlough CIPS family is so special!
After School Provision
Term 2 afterschools clubs are proving to be a big hit. We are delighted to offer such a wide programme and love seeing our pupils continue to develop their skills, talents and abilities in afterschool clubs. We have received the first of our order of lovely new equipment for Young Engineers and Multi-skills. Fresh Little Minds was the perfect way to relax and unwind on a Monday afternoon.
Integrated Education Month
March is Integrated Education Month. We are immensely proud of our integrated status and all that it stands for. Our children learn, laugh, play, love and grow alongside one another and therefore are being prepared for future life; citizens with empathy and understanding, mutual respect and self-confidence. This year the theme is ‘2020 Vision’ and in Carnlough CIPS we have used this theme as part of our upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations! We look forward to taking part in some exciting activities throughout March. Keep an eye on social media and website for info and photos!
