Theme for the Month: Perseverance
‘A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.’
The word ‘yet’ is a very powerful word. There are lots of things we cannot do….yet! The power of perseverance is never giving up. Perseverance is the ability to get through difficult tasks. It is important to work through challenges, using our mind and our body to overcome them. Perseverance is the ability to do your best towards a goal even though it may be a big challenge. We encourage you to always try your best. As we approach assessment time, this is important to remember; as well as getting enough sleep and being well prepared through homework and classwork, we would like you to ensure you always try your best.
We are coming to the end of our shared education for this year. All children will take part in their last pupil meets of the year in May. We look forward to celebrating all the wonderful work completed and the friendships developed throughout the year.
The literacy co-ordinators from the partnership schools have completed the updated schemes and progressions in literacy and will be disseminating this to staff in due course. Many thanks as always to our link officer Marion Bailie (EA) for her support throughout the process.
The principals and co-ordinator will be meeting our development officer in the last month to create next year’s action plan and look forward to hearing the views of all our stakeholders, including the parents, as we move forward with our planning for next year. Questionnaires will be issued shortly.
Grow Your Own Project
Our garden is looking splendid and we all have had a part to play in it. Gary from Inver Garden Centre and Carnlough Community Association have helped us continue to develop our outdoor area and for this we are very grateful. This year we have focused on creating a sensory garden and work is ongoing with this. We love tending to our plants and our excited to see what can be harvested this year!
School Council News
This year our school council’s chosen charity is the NI Air Ambulance. The children came up with various fundraiser ideas during class council discussions. School council reps brought these ideas to the school council meeting and voted. The fundraiser will be ………………. a sponsored row! (on rowing machines!) Carnlough rowing club is very kindly going to help us with this. More details to follow. #communityconnections #givingback #learningtogether
Outdoor Classroom Day
We loved taking part in the global Outdoor Classroom Day last year so much we are doing it again this year. It is great being able to use our outdoor environment to learn in and to learn more about it and we do this throughout the year. We hope the weather is kind but if not we’ll make the most of it. There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothes! We’ll keep you posted!
Thank you so much to everyone for supporting the annual Mayfair in lots of different ways; from helping with set up to donating items and everything in between. It was a great day, enjoyed by all. We raised nearly £1600 on the day which is a massive amount. Well done to all the raffle prize-winners and a big thankyou to our local businesses who donated prizes, the Lions Club for the use of their BBQ and Mr Davey for all his help. Proud of our Community Connections!
Scholastic Book Fair
We have been blown away by your support of the Scholastic Book Fair. We used some kindly donated PTA money to update each class library. Our total raised was £500 which has earned us £300 to spend on books and reading resources. Thank you so much. We can’t wait to get stuck into the new titles!
Term 3 Afterschools
We are loving our new timetable of afterschools. We enjoyed a super talk on recycling with Barry Tapster from Mid and East Antrim Council. He then worked with the Great Outdoors afterschool club to construct a wonderful new bird house for our chestnut trees. Burns Skills School has also proved very popular. We look forward to getting feedback from our pupils which we will use to make the term 1 timetable in September! #pupilvoice
