Theme for the Month: Optimism

‘Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you’

Mary Lou Retton

Optimism is a sense of hopefulness and confidence about the future. It involves a positive mental attitude in which you interpret life events, people, and situations in a promising light. Optimists have a tendency to make lemonade out of lemons, and to then see the glass as half-full rather than half-empty. It's an admirable quality, one that can positively affect mental and physical health. As we approach the end of our school year, we look forward with optimism to the new adventures ahead. I am sure everyone is excited about the thought of a lovely break over the summer, spending time with our families and friends and hopefully enjoying good weather! Some of us will be moving to new classrooms, and our wonderful P7 pupils will be moving onto their new schools to start the next chapter in their academic careers. After a great year of hard work, challenges, lots of learning and great fun we look forward with optimism to what lies ahead!

Shared Education

This year Shared Education has involved the setting up of our new partnership with Glenann PS. The principals have met a number of times and the P7 children from both schools will meet on 21st June for transition work and fun activities. We look forward to continuing to develop the partnership and have more pupil meets in the next academic year.

Grow Your Own Project

Our garden and outdoor areas looking splendid and we all have had a part to play in it. Gary from Inver Garden Centre and Carnlough Community Association have helped us continue to develop our outdoor area and for this we are very grateful. We have had a few deliveries recently after waiting very patiently for them; a beautiful bug hotel and an awesome outdoor classroom, some lovely new raised beds and lots of resources for the outdoor classroom. We can’t wait to put these all to use.

Term 3 Afterschools

Term 3 afterschools have been very popular and it has been great to see such good attendance at the clubs. We will be consulting with the pupils and using their feedback to plan for afterschools in term 1 in September. #pupilvoice

Congratulations all the children in the school who made sacraments recently; Olivia made her First Holy Communion and Conor, Ella and Freya made their Confirmation this week. You all worked hard to prepare for your special days and we are all so proud of you well done!

We also had some footballing superstars honoured at a glitzy dinner dance this month! Well done Taylor, Clara, Olivia WK, Georgia and Charlotte!

Celebrating all our achievements!

Hydration Station

Please ensure all children have a water bottle in school each day especially in this warmer weather. This is essential for hydration and concentration. In line with our school’s policy, bottles should contain water only. Juice, cartons, milkshakes etc. can be taken at lunch time but bottles in class should only contain water. With the warmer weather comes the shedding of school jumpers. Please ensure your child/children’s clothes are labelled with their names.

We were so thankful the rain stayed away to allow us to enjoy our sponsored walk to Cranny Falls. We are raising money for Friends of the Cancer Centre following the sad news that one of our past pupils is currently battling cancer. Amy’s family have been so grateful for the support they have received from the organisation. We are delighted to help out in our own small way. Please click the link below to donate any collected sponsor money.

Take 5

We are delighted to share the news that we are officially a Level 2 take 5 school! This follows all the work we have completed, both staff and children, around mental health and well-being. We are so proud to be an official Take 5 school and look forward to continuing are journey with this. The last two years have taught us just how important positive mental health and well-being are for us all. Building brighter futures, body, mind and soul!
