Theme for the Month: Caring

‘Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community

Matthew J D’Angelo

We in the Carnlough CIPS team have been blown away by your acts of kindness and how you have shown how you care for others in our school community, our local community and those much further afield. The Lions club were very grateful to receive 17 beautiful and thoughtful shoeboxes for their appeal and commented on ‘Carnlough CIPS, a small school with a big heart’. Our harvest assembly helped us think about how we should live more simply so that others may simply live and the generosity you showed in our hamper for the food bank was incredible. Finally, we are pleased to announce that we have raised just over £1000 for our school defibrillator. Well done everyone and a massive thank you for always showing how we care for others.

Phonics Session

We are pleased to invite you to our rescheduled Phonics session in Carnlough Library on Tuesday 14th November at 6.30pm. Along with our colleagues from our Shared Education Partnership, we will be facilitating a short presentation and session on phonics and reading for the parents/carers of children in the Foundation Stage (P1&2) This will be followed by a quick chat with Julie the library manager about the facilities available in the library to help our children to continue to develop a love of reading. Tea and coffee on arrival. Look forward to seeing you there!

After Schools Provision

After schools’ clubs have been proving very popular and we are so pleased to see so many children engaging in a variety of activities. We really look forward to drawing up a new timetable of provision in the new year with the possibility of some outside facilitators and coaches. If you have any preference for particular activities please let us know, though we cannot guarantee we love to hear your thoughts. We truly value our positive home/school connections.  Learning together, learning more!

Anti-bullying Week

We are taking part in anti-bullying week beginning 13th November with a special assembly to help us think about what bullying is and what we in our school can do to ensure we have a bullying-free zone. We know who we can talk to in school if anything is making us feel unhappy. Each class will be taking part in circle time and PDMU activities this week. ‘All equal, all different, all together’ is the theme this year and we know how this is especially relevant for us, as this message is present in our school, through our integrated ethos and in everything we do.

Carnlough CIPS Has Talent!

A massive well done to our P6 football star who has been picked for the Northern Ireland Youth team. Massive congratulation Blaine! We are very proud of you. In our school we celebrate all our different talents and abilities and rejoice in our achievements. We had some excellent entries to both the Christmas card competition and the credit union competition, so fingers crossed!

Maths Week Ireland

What fun we had during our belated Maths Week celebrations finishing with a spooktacular maths trail. Each class had lots of fun with their challenges and games, we even got a retweet on our school twitter account for the great work on display! Many thanks to Mrs O’Reilly for organising such calculated fun!

Parent Partnership

Many thanks to all the parents and carers who attended our curriculum evening and to the parent/teacher interviews in October. We really value a strong home/school link as we all work together for the benefit of our children. Remember if there is something you wish to have further explained or would like a session on, we are more than happy to provide this. If anyone still needs an appointment for parent/teacher interview, please advise the class teacher on a time that suits.

Open Day

We are holding our school open day on Tuesday 5th December. There will be two sessions; a morning and afternoon session as we know some children will be at pre-school in the morning. The school will be open for anyone to come and see what we are all about in Carnlough CIPS. It is not solely for children starting P1 in September but for anyone considering educating their children in an integrated setting. We encourage you to remind family and friends of the date. We welcome everyone to our school and would love to see as many as possible come and experience our caring, nurturing and truly integrated family school.

Shared Education Signature Project

October was a busy month for Shared Education with our partner schools. All the teachers from the schools met to plan and prepare for each year group’s trips. P5/6/7 journeyed to Carnalbanagh PS where they completed carousel activities for PDMU. P3/4 travelled to Seaview PS and enjoyed a mixture of world around us, PE and PDMU including a walk in the forest. We look forward to welcoming the 2 schools to Carnlough CIPS next term.
