Read on to find out about our awesome October and to see what is coming up in November!
Theme for the Month: Caring
‘Even the smallest act of caring for another person is like a drop in the water – it will make ripples throughout the entire pond.’
Jessy and Brian Matteo
We in the Carnlough CIPS team have been blown away by your acts of kindness and how you have shown how you care for others in our school community, our local community and those much further afield. Our bucket of kindness is over half full! We love catching our girls and boys in the act of being kind and caring towards others. The Lions club were very grateful to receive lots of beautiful and thoughtful shoeboxes for their appeal. Our successful Children in Need day raised lots of money for those less fortunate than ourselves. Well done everyone and a massive thank you for always showing how we care for others.
We are taking part in anti-bullying week beginning 11th November with ‘Change Starts With Us’ being the key theme in this year’s campaign. Our Integrated ethos is built on respect and mutual understanding and it permeates through everything we do. An integrated school promotes respect and equality by its design and we are so proud of this. We are pledging to make little changes to make our school an even happier place! We know who we can talk to in school if anything is making us feel unhappy. Each class will be taking part in circle time and PDMU activities during anti-bullying week.
Exploring Religious Diversity
Primary 5/6/7 have had an excellent opportunity to explore religion in a project kindly funded by the Integrated Education Fund (IEF). They have visited local churches and church leaders and have travelled to Belfast to visit the Islamic Centre and the Synagogue. This has been so interesting and rewarding and will finish with a celebration assembly on Friday 29th November at 11am. Everyone is most welcome to join us to hear and learn about their amazing journey through the project.
Carnlough CIPS Has Talent!
A massive well done all our Larne Credit Union art competition winners! The children will receive their prizes on 11th December at The Curran Court Hotel. We are very proud of you. In our school we celebrate all our different talents and abilities and rejoice in our achievements. We have also had some excellent entries to the Christmas card competition too, well done to the winners from each class and well done to everyone for taking part. Your cards will look beautiful displayed in the Community Association!
Many thanks to all the parents and carers who attended our curriculum evening and to the parent/teacher interviews in October. We really value a strong home/school link as we all work together for the benefit of our children. Remember if there is something you wish to have further explained or would like a session on, we are more than happy to provide this. If anyone still needs an appointment for parent/teacher interview, please advise the class teacher on a time that suits.
We are holding our school open day on Thursday 5th December. There will be three sessions; a morning and afternoon session as we know some children will be at pre-school in the morning and a session in the evening to cater for anyone working during the day. Session times are 11.30 – 12.30pm and 1.15 – 2.00pm and 6.00 – 7.00pm. The school will be open for anyone to come and see what we are all about in Carnlough CIPS. It is not solely for children starting P1 in September but for anyone considering educating their children in an integrated setting. We encourage you to remind family and friends of the date. There will be Golden tickets given to pre-school children attending to use at our PTA Christmas Craft Fair to see Santa! We welcome everyone to our school and would love to see as many as possible come and experience our caring, nurturing and truly integrated family school.
Carnlough CIPS PTA
Our annual PTA Christmas Craft Fair will take place on Fri 6th December from 6.30-8.30pm. Notes have been sent home outlining items that are needed for the night. We value all that our families and friends do to help out and even if you cannot attend PTA meetings but are in a position to help out on the night, that would be greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to a great night to begin the festive season and there may even be an appearance from the main man himself, ho ho ho!! Items and raffle tickets should be left into school by Fri 29th Nov. Thank you for your continued support.
Shared Education Signature Project
November is a busy month for Shared Education with our partner schools. All the teachers from the schools met to plan and prepare for each year group’s trips. P5/6/7 travelled to Seaview PS where they completed exciting activities to explore both Guy Fawkes and Remembrance Day. P3/4 travelled to Carnalbanagh PS to explore World War I and II and Remembrance Day. We did this through Art, PE, PDMU and other fun activities. We look forward to planning next term’s meetings and for P1 and 2 to meet for the first time this year.
We warmly invite you and your family and friends to our Christmas Nativity on Thursday 12th December at 6.30pm. We are in the working hard on our songs and lines to learn and are super excited. This years’ performance promises to be a memorable one!
Thank you to Mrs O’Reilly for organising a great and fun Children in Need day! You have, as always, been so generous and we raised just over £150! We also presented the Antrim Coast Lions with lots of beautifully wrapped shoeboxes ready to begin their journey with the Road Of Hope charity.
We continue our community connections with a variety of singing events in the run up to Christmas.
