Theme for the Month: Responsibility

"The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility – these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education.                                     — Rudolph Steiner

As we begin a new school year we aim to take responsibility for our learning journeys and our personal development. We set targets, we draw up class contracts and we use these to ensure we are taking responsibility for our learning and our behaviour. This is a great time of the year to look at our goals and to aim high. We believe in every one of you. We reach for the stars in Carnlough CIPS!

Welcome!

We are very pleased to welcome everyone back for another exciting school year. We especially welcome our new families to Carnlough Integrated PS. The Primary One children have settled into school life with such ease, you should be very proud of them! Well done boys and girls.

Clothes labels

Please ensure items of school uniform are clearly marked with names/name tag. It is impossible to keep track of items if they are not clearly named.

Clothes Bin

We had our clothes recycling bin emptied a few times last year and were so pleased to receive money to boost our school funds so many thanks for your continued support. We would be grateful if you keep this in mind when clearing out clothes, materials, bedclothes, shoes etc.

Safeguarding Team

Our pupils’ care, safety and well-being is our top priority. Our whole school team are trained to support pupils in school and are led by Mrs O’Reilly as Designated Teacher, Miss Mulholland Deputy Designated Teacher, Ms N Barakat (Chair of Governors) and Mrs R McCormick (safeguarding Governor).

Breakfast Club Bonanza

We are delighted to see such a fantastic uptake for our new breakfast club. The children have been so excited and have of course displayed their exemplary manners, co-operation and kindness. The buzz has been infectious and we all agree it is has been a great way to start the day!

Carnlough CIPS PTA

For many years now Carnlough CIPS PTA have run extremely successful events to raise funds for our school. We sincerely thank all the members of the PTA and the parents, family and friends who support the events in many different ways. Last year was a particularly successful year and we are truly thankful for their continued support.

The PTA are hosting a ‘Back to School Family Fun Night’ on Thursday 26th September. We encourage all our families to come along for some fun, refreshments, activities for the children and a chance for one lucky P1 parent to win an amazing prize! The fun will begin at 7pm. See you there!

Parking

As we start the new year we ask that when doing the school run you are mindful of parking. We are fortunate to have a school crossing patrol. In order for the crossing patrol to operate successfully and safely cars should not double park, park on footpaths or park in a way the obstructs the view along the road. Carnlough village traffic has steadily increased over the years and we all have a responsibility to ensure our children get to and from school safely.

Attendance and Punctuality

This is a gentle reminder that school is open for children from 8.45am. P1 and 2 children go to the mobile classroom. P3-7 children can play outside (weather permitting) until the bell goes to signal school starting. Lessons begin at 9.00am. Children should be in school, ready to begin for 9.00am. This is essential to help them to be organised and ready and so they do not miss essential learning. If a child has been sick they should be 48 hours clear before returning to school. All absences should be reported to school via a written note or phone call to the office. If a pupils’ attendance falls below 85% the Education Welfare Officer will contact parents/carers.

Snuffles!

Cold and flu season is upon us! We kindly ask if each family could donate a box or two of tissues for the classrooms. These will be gratefully received!

Home/School Partnership

We warmly invite you to a Curriculum evening on Wed 18th September. This will be split into 3 sessions; one for each key stage.

P1/2          6.30 – 7.00pm

P3/4         7.00 – 7.30pm

P5/6/7       7.30 – 8.00pm

The session will include a short overview of our homework policy and our positive behaviour policy. Parents are then invited to view their child/children’s classrooms were we will be happy to talk to you about the set-up of the school day, the resources we use and how your child/children can best be supported at home.

Please note that grandparents, child minders etc. are more than welcome to join especially if they are involved in homework time.

Free School Meals

Every year lots of parents miss out on free school meals entitlement. If you meet the threshold criteria you can receive FSM. School also receives funding for this. Forms given out in June need to be submitted to the EA as soon as possible. Until the school receives documentation from the EA that an application has been processed, parents are liable for the charge. Forms also available on EA website.

Shoebox Appeal

We have been asked by the Carnlough Lions to take part in their annual shoebox appeal for the charity Road Of Hope. We had an assembly in school to show us the things that can be included and to tell us about the charity work. Information sheets will be sent home. If it is not feasible to complete a shoebox in your family, why not join with cousins or neighbours to do one together? Alternatively, if you have items that could be included, these can come into school to go into a box to send on.

Items and shoeboxes should be returned to school by:

Friday 25th October
